And then there were 80.

On Monday, Bayonne Democrat Jason O'Donnell will be sworn in to fill a vacant 31st District Assembly seat, bringing the legislative body back up to its full count.

O'Donnell, 39, is a graduate of New Jersey City University, is on leave from his post as a city fire captain, according to a news release issued by the Assembly Democrats. The Asbury Park Press DataUniverse site lists O'Donnell's 2009 fire department salary as $84,726.

A month ago, O'Donnell was named acting public safety director in Bayonne. His salary is $101,000, according to a Aug. 6 article in the Jersey Journal. He previously had been Bayonne's director of municipal services.

"It's a great combination,'' O'Donnell told the Jersey Journal about his new municipal job and his pending gig as an assemblyman. ""To be on the ground here and know on a day-to-day basis what the city is going through - I can now take that with me to Trenton."

He will earn $49,000 as an assemblyman.

What the release did not say was what happened to Anthony Chiappone, the man O'Donnell is replacing.

Chiappone resigned in July after pleading guilty to falsifying campaign finance records.
